Description: Erica cinerea is a low growing shrub with needle-like leaves, a member of the heath family, mounding to 2 feet tall. Foliage is dainty and dark green, urn-shaped flowers are purple, pink, or white, blooming in the summer. Can be used as an effective groundcover, it forms a nice low mat. Heaths require good drainage, preferably sandy soil, and most like acidic soil. They rarely require fertilizing, good compost is usually sufficient. Cut back after flowering.
